From the age of one, Zi-Yu Huang has been a resident of Beitou hot springs in Taipei. They are a dog person and majors in humanities and social sciences. In junior high school, they began learning electric guitar and eventually developed a passion for various types of music, particularly those that are suitable for dancing and those that have a calming effect. During their senior high school summer break, Huang inherited their father’s collection of four well-maintained analog cameras and began exploring photography. They used experimental film developing techniques combined with black and white film to produce a high contrast tone that is ideal for capturing light, shadow, and close-up portraits of people. Huang has also independently published two photography books: “Restless Dog (躁動狗)” and “Shining People (閃閃發光的人).” As a trainee in lucid dreaming, they are fascinated by the relationship between consciousness and unconsciousness. Through art, they have explored and observed the participation mystique between people and discovered that we are all closely connected at a fundamental level. They are excited to share a side of themselves that is difficult to express to those outside of their inner circle, a side that relates to the primal aspects of the human psyche and cannot be fully captured by words or language. They strive to communicate through more intuitive behaviors and sounds, expressing a desire for an ideal life through their creations.
